Water, Sewer, Sanitation
                and Utility Provider Information

Hahira is blessed with a secure natural water supply.  In fact, Hahira has become known throughout South Georgia for its abundant, reliable water resource. Even during the drought conditions of recent years, the city's water system met customer demands.  Water, sewer and sanitation service arrangements can be made at city hall.  A deposit of $100.00 is required prior to service connections. Rates are, water, $8.00 for the first 3,000 gallons, sewer $12.00 first 3,000 gallons, and household garbage collection $12.25 per month. Rollout garbage containers are provided for each resident. All garbage is collected at curbside. Collection days are Monday and Tuesday for residential pickup and containers must be placed at curbside by 7 a.m. on collection days. Household garbage pickup is mandatory. Bills are mailed on the 1st of each month and are due on the 15th. If not paid by the 15th, a 15% late charge will be added. If bill is not paid in full by the 20th water service will be disconnected at noon on the 21st on any unpaid bills. Before service can be reconnected a $25.00 reconnect fee is due for restoring service between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM. A reconnection fee of $75.00 is due after 3:30 pm Monday through Friday, On weekends and/or holidays. The reconnect charge must be paid in addition to late charges and monthly billing charges.

YARD WASTE AND RECYCLABLE COLLECTION SITE

Four containers are located in the field next to the City's Public Works barn, located on South Hall Street.  The four containers are for:

1. Yard waste

2. Plastic and glass recyclables

3. Cardboard

4. All other household waste

This service is currently available to all Hahira citizens at no cost.  Hours of the collection site are:

Monday - Thursday 6:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Friday   - 6:30 AM - 2:15 pm

The availability of extended collection during evening hours and on weekends will be examined in the coming months.  As always the sanitation department will collect yard trash and other non hazardous material at curbside. To receive this service you must call 794-3747 and request a pick-up.  This option is available for $25.00 per load.  Please call Public Works or City Hall at 794-2330 if you have questions.

OTHER UTILITY PROVIDERS

GEORGIA POWER COMPANY

Electrical service to areas within the city limits is provided by Georgia Power Company.  A customer service office is located at 104 South Church Street next door to City Hall. Telephone (229)794-2439.

WINDSTREAM CORPORATION

Windstream Communications provides local area telephone service.  Telephone 1-800-501-1754 for residential service or 1-800-501-1776 for business service.

NATURAL GAS

Since deregulation of the gas industry Scanna Energy is one of several natural gas providers for the Hahira Area.  You can call them toll free @ (877)467-2622 or 866-245-7742. 

CABLE TELEVISION SERVICE

Cable television service is provided in the Hahira area by Mediacom.  The local office is located  at 275 Norman Drive, P.O. Box 2215, Valdosta, GA 31602.  Telephone 1-800-927-0410
