On 9/11 2002 a ceremony was held in Hahira City Park to honor those who died in the attack on America on September 11, 2001. A flag pole donated by Woodman Of The World and erected by City of Hahira Public Works Department employees was dedicated in their memory. Fire Chief J.C. Plair directed the service with Mayor Myron Crowe delivering the welcome and dedicating the flag pole. Boy Scout Gordy Pickard and Hahira Police Sgt. Lunger raised the flag on the new pole and then lowered it to half mast where it was flown for the remainder of the day in honor of those who died on 9/11. Patriotic songs were sung by the Hahira Middle School Chorus, moments of silence were held for the passengers and crews of the four planes hijacked and crashed into the World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and into the field in Shanksville Pa. Taps were played by Zackery O'Brien. During the ceremony EMT's and Firefighters from the Hahira Fire Department stood at attention. The invocation was delivered by Rev. David Gordon and the closing prayer by Rev. Lyn Hurley. After the ceremony refreshments were provided by the Hahira Honeybee Committee and the Better Hometown Committee.
