Outside Burning Requirements 

The City of Hahira has amended its Outside Burning Ordinance #04-03. Any open burning in Hahira requires a burn permit; this permit can be obtained by telephone through the Georgia Forestry Commission. There is no charge for this permit.

The number is 333-5267.

It shall be unlawful for any person to conduct any outside burning without this permit. The permit can be obtained on a case by case basis, or an annual permit can be obtained. Even with the annual burn permit, the property owner or the person requesting to burn must contact Georgia Forestry to confirm that conditions are safe for burning.

It shall be unlawful to burn, or cause to be burned. Garbage, heave oils, asphalt materials, milled wood, items containing natural or synthetic rubber or any material other than plant growth. This is in accordance with the EPD Air Quality Act, chapter 391-3-1.

ANY burn pile cannot be larger than 6 feet by 6 feet, and can be no closer than 50 feet from any structure. All burning must be conducted between the hours of 9:00am and one hour before dark.

All burning must be conducted in a way to not cause harm or discomfort to the public.
